Good budget option for Cairns
A very clean, social, and safe hostel. The dorms had great AC and were very comfortable to sleep in. They use passcodes, so you don't have to carry around a physical key. Staff are super friendly and helpful.
A bit of a walk from from busy areas like the boardwalk and night market. The bar is super fun and active, but people can be loud pretty late. As long as you have earplugs, it is super manageable!

Do not stay here
Possibly the worst hostel I've stayed in while I've been in Auz. Cramped smelly dorms, got bitten loads, cold showers, rammed fridge, not enough washing machines and tiny pool. You need to get plates and cutlery from reception. Annoying gates everywhere. Our corridor had 2 shower/toilet rooms for about 30 beds. Air con is right above two of the bunk beds, so whoever is sleeping there is freezing. I was only there 2 nights but didn't seem to have good socials either.
I think the only good thing was the breakfast and you get a welcome drink.

We're so sorry to see you didn't have experience that we strive to deliver at our property.
As we are in a tropical climate, you will find you may experience an increase in bug bites while here, but we appreciate your feedback. Since your stay we have also introduced more fridges for our guests and we are now in the process of changing the layout of our pool fences so this should alleviate the issue of them being in the pathways.
We are also in the process of renovating and increasing the number of bathrooms, as you may have seen by the workmen on site during your stay, so hopefully in the near future this should also be improved dramatically.
We hope you can come back and give us a second chance to see our changes if you're ever in the area :)

Poor effort
incredibly disappointing, starting with one of the worst greetings I've ever experienced. The staff's attitude was unhelpful and unprofessional right from the moment I arrived, showing little interest in welcoming guests or making them feel valued.
I had flown in from Japan at 430am called up the night manger to let her know I was just going to stay in a private hotel for this morning to catch up on some much need sleep.
After I've gotten my sleep I took a walk around Cairns to have a look and get familiar with my surroundings I wanted to check out my accommodation along my walk at the mad monkey central that I've booked for a 5 nights stay.
Just wanted to ask a simple question about my accommodation and because I didn't have my passport on me they couldn't answer my questions I understand that so I walked back to my hotel to collect my passport upon my arrival at my private hotel I got a email saying cancellation with out reason called them straight away and was told my bed had been replaced very disappointing.
The atmosphere lacked warmth and hospitality, with no effort made to create a welcoming or enjoyable environment for travelers.

Would not go back
Spent 3 nights here while doing some Diving and tourism activities. The front desk staff weren’t overly helpful although they were all friendly. The bar tender was a jerk which made the social aspect less desirable. We had a private room which was fine, clean and had larger lockers however two of the nights there were loud movies playing up until at least midnight. Wouldn’t recommend for the price.

A happy place
I had a single room close to the centre that was clean and comfortable, and although close to the centre was very quiet, facilities were only a couple of doors away. There was a small pool and an eating and socialising area undercover with a bar and pool table. The kitchen was clean and well equipped with all the usual facilities. All the staff were friendly and the whole place had a happy and genial atmosphere. They organise some outings including a pub crawl that many took part in and I would certainly stay there again.
