Underwhelming Stay at Summit Barsana Resort & Spa, Kalimpong

Our stay at Summit Barsana Resort & Spa began on a positive note with a smooth check-in process, a warm welcome featuring black tea and a traditional shawl. However, the initial charm faded quickly.
The Good:
The property boasts beautiful outdoor spaces, including well-maintained gardens and open areas. The balcony offered a lovely view of the mountains, providing a serene backdrop. The staff at the front desk were friendly and courteous, which is worth appreciating.
The Not-So-Good:
The property is clearly dated and poorly maintained. The room floors were dirty, sticky, and far from inviting, forcing us to keep our shoes on throughout. The furniture was basic and worn out, and the absence of essential amenities like a safe and refrigerator was disappointing. Although a heater was provided, it looked so outdated that we didn’t bother using it.
The bathroom was perhaps the most concerning aspect—fittings and mirrors were completely worn out, and there was no exhaust or suction. The faucets looked as though they had seen decades of use without proper upkeep. Check out the photos and videos I’ve posted for details.
Connectivity Woes:
The Wi-Fi was a major letdown, frequently disconnecting. For anyone who needs even basic internet connectivity, this would be a dealbreaker.
Noise and Inconvenience:
Peace and quiet were not on the menu. Loud music from the restaurant continued late into the evening, completely disrupting the tranquil retreat we had envisioned. To make matters worse, we received multiple calls from the staff about a food order we hadn’t placed, despite clarifying this multiple times.
Dining Disappointment:
Breakfast was below average, both in taste and variety. While the poori was decent, the rest of the spread left much to be desired. We arrived at 7:30 AM, only to find breakfast unprepared, and it took 20 minutes for the poori to be served. The lack of promptness and quality was evident, as most guests left without having a proper meal.
Final Thoughts:
This is not a 4-star property by any stretch of the imagination—it doesn’t even meet the standards of a 3-star hotel. It’s best described as a budget hotel with friendly staff but numerous shortcomings. The glowing reviews online seem either exaggerated or misaligned with the actual experience.
For anyone seeking comfort, cleanliness and a peaceful retreat, I’d recommend looking elsewhere. Our one-night stay was more than enough; I can’t imagine staying longer. Avoid this property unless significant improvements are made.

Excellent resort in Kalimpong

Just off Kalimpong town, even though it is housed within a neighborhood, the serenity and view it has to offer is unparalleled. The rooms are spacious, clean and warm, the garden well curated, the balconies have a couple’s seating arrangement with spectacular view of the Sleeping Buddha. The garden is sunny and warm and has a strange happy quality about it. With adequate seating arrangements there, it is a great place to while away your time with a book, music or interesting company! The property has two blocks and the one that houses the cafeteria possibly has a better view of the ranges from their balconies. There is a play area for kids, a game room, and a café as well.
The dining space too is quite large and tables a good breakfast buffet with a widespread for both veg and non veg eaters. The semi open space in front of the dining hall is even better with a fountain to look at, vines that provide a green wall and a live counter which makes lovely pizzas. Food is one department that could definitely see some improvement; mutton is not available; chicken is quite chewy, and it takes them forever to get the food ready after order is placed.
Two things to keep in mind if you are visiting: The bathrooms stink in the block that houses the reception (all of them), and we were told that an improper sewage system is the culprit and they were working on it. There are adhoc discounts and offers that are available on the food menu (scan the QR code provided in the rooms) which the hotel team is mostly ignorant of. Show them the offer to avail it instead of paying extra unnecessarily.
The staff are cordial and I totally loved their send off with blessings from a puja thali and a tilak to wish you a safe journey!
I wish them a great journey towards more success!

Review for Summit Barsana Kalimpong

We stayed at Summit Barsana in Kalimpong for two nights, and while the experience had its positives, there were several areas that left room for improvement.
Pros:
• The hotel enjoys a good location, offering easy access to Kalimpong’s attractions and a tranquil setting.
• The rooms were comfortable, providing a cozy retreat during our stay.
• The staff was courteous, though the overall service could use some refinement.
Cons:
• We faced issues with electricity in the rooms, which disrupted the otherwise comfortable stay.
• The food was average at best. The breakfast buffet, in particular, lacked variety and quality, which was disappointing considering the price point.
• The parking situation is a major concern. The parking space is poorly designed, and the road leading to it is in a deplorable condition. Driving uphill from the parking area to the main road is challenging due to the narrow and unmaintained path.
Final Thoughts:
While the hotel has potential with its location and decent service, the shortcomings in food quality and the critical issue with parking facilities need urgent attention. At the rates charged, there are better options available in Kalimpong unless these issues are addressed.

Summit Barsana Resort & Spa at Kalimpong

We stayed at Summit Barsana Resort & Spa, Kalimpong, for five days during December 2024. It was an extremely pleasant experience for the six of us. The hotel was well-equipped with modern amenities. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The staff were extremely courteous and always ready to help with a smile. The restaurant served good food with excellent support staff. The property itself had excellent open space with well-maintained lawns, gardens full of flowers and play-zones for kids. The glorious mountains added to the atmosphere immensely.
The approach road to the hotel is, unfortunately, quite steep and initially this can be bothersome. We came to know that an improved road is already sanctioned and will be built soon enough.
