Average property but great location!

Had a very poor initial experience - had booked the room through the Agoda website, but on calling up the hotel a day prior to checking in, was informed that my booking had been canceled. Even though I had made a full payment for the booking and had received a confirmation from Agoda, the hotel apparently had no communication from Agoda regarding the same. On talking to the manager in charge, I was absolutely stupefied to hear that they don't honor bookings done through the Agoda third party website because the website apparently was selling the rooms at a heavily discounted price not acceptable to the hotel. I was bluntly told that my booking was cancelled and that I had to take up this issue with Agoda if I wished to claim a refund. A long altercation followed, and finally the manager in charge found out that I had actually made the full payment for my booking and I was told that my room would be available as booked. The whole episode left an extremely sour taste in the mouth along with the realization that a guest at the hotel could well become a target of unresolved issues between the property and a third party vendor for no fault of his own!!!
The property is average at best - that said, I stayed in a super deluxe room which was clean and reasonably decent. The furnishings and linen were okay and the bathroom was large & clean. Room facilities were otherwise quite basic. Breakfast was not really much to speak of. Staff interaction was also average. Where the hotel really scores high is in its location. This is extremely convenient and one can literally walk down to several important places that are nearby (Theater Road, Camac Street, Park Street, Victoria Memorial, the US Consulate). Overall, though average, the location of the property and the room tariff still makes it a good value for money proposition especially for short stays.
