Lovely stay

We needed a break, nothing too far away, and we wanted somewhere relaxing. I have passed by the Salty Monk and always thought I would like to stay there, and I am so glad we did, lovely room and location. Perfect stay, had a wonderful bath and steam shower, breakfast was first class, the owner was friendly and helpful and nothing was to much trouble for them.

How lovely to read your review, thank you very much we are very happy that we made your little break memorable, we always hope to achieve relaxing, and quality with great food and a chat if its wanted. You know where to get a little break now and the area is lovely for day trips, plenty to see and do, tell your friends your little secret to help them out too.
We hope to welcome you again soon.

Doesn't quite hit the spot!

Ample parking. Initial impressions were good but the welcome was certainly not warm. We had booked their supposedly deluxe room and on first impressions, it looked lovely but on closer inspection, there were quite a number of issues. The king size bed was 2 singles put together, fair enough but there was a big dip in the middle of the bed. No instructions on how to use the shower and after trying to work it out, I had burned my ankle with the steam and hurt my eyes trying to use the shampoo etc., which was difficult to get the pump working. After I had used the shower, it just would not go on for my partner to use. The bath was absolutely lovely but on enjoying that you look up and see the dirty light and a fan full of cobwebs and dust!! Towels are changed next day but cafetiere was overlooked and we had to ask for a fresh one. It's a pre-order breakfast but it's 1 of everything and only sourdough bread. I was hungry the second morning however it was a great sausage. Owner spoke on the last day but had strongly critiqued another table who had questioned their order. She was very unapproachable and not around when guests were leaving but to cap it all...just leaving and pulled bed blanket down to find on my side of the bed a painted toe nail. Photos to follow.

I am so sorry that we missed the mark and the cafetiere was missed, I do not think we have had a table question their choices at breakfast as you rightly say it is pre ordered, the menu is quite extensive and portions are certainly not capped in anyway. I cannot apologise for our freshly made bread, because we do not use any ultra processed foods everything is still made on the premises so we do not serve packet bread.

Blown Away by the Quality of the Food

Blown away by the creativity and execution of the menu. My wife and I had a memorable early Valentines supper. Our hosts were extremely attentive and engaging, they happily answered all my questions regarding the dishes. Will certainly be going again (hopefully soon!)

Second to none!!

We have just returned home having spent a fabulous 5night stay with Annette & Andy at the Salty Monk. Quite simply it does ''what it says on the tin''. The quality of ALL the previous reviews should give anyone contemplating spending time in Sidmouth and it's environs the need to look no further than THE SALTY MONK

Fabulous!

We stayed in the Heather suite for a two night mini break as we needed some relaxation. From the minute we arrived we felt welcome and at ease. We were travelling with our dog and his every need was catered for, including towel, water and feeding bowls and treats on arrival. Dog walks are within minutes of the property including the "Byes" which makes it ideal for us. The room was super comfortable and spotlessly clean. Every detail has been thought through from the the extremely comfortable bed, fluffy towels, filter coffee and homemade biscuits on the hospitality tray. The breakfast was absolutely superb and all the ingredients were of top quality. As there is a wide selection on offer for breakfast so you choose the night before which we prefer as it helps cut down food waste. We also ate in the restaurant one night and the meal, and wine selection, can not be faulted. Try the freshly baked lemon tart if you do eat in the restaurant... you won't be disappointed! Thank you Andy and Annette for a wonderful stay. We will all be back very soon.

We are always delighted to hear a customer has enjoyed their stay with us, comfy beds and great food are really important to everyone for the best R&R. We are lucky to be at the end or beginning depending on your perspective, of The Byes, National Trust walk into Sidmouth, all off road yet tarmac underfoot and level walking too, its ideal for Doggie owners or non doggie owners alike.
We do hope to see you both again soon.
