Beautiful little hotel in Playa

Beautiful hotel located in the best area of Playa del Carmen: 5th Av close to shops, restaurants, cafes and the beach. Simple but very clean, friendly and friendly reception staff, the lobby garden is spectacular, they do daily cleaning in the room. Breakfast is served in a restaurant a few meters from the hotel, it is very simple but delicious and you complement it with a discount coupon to order extra from the menu. We were delighted and would definitely come back.

A hotel not at all 4 stars

Perfect location, very nice staff except the slightly old lady at the reception (maybe the one responsible) very unpleasant, as soon as you arrive you are asked a deposit of 50€.We feel watched all the time. You're charged for every stain on the servants you've ever seen in a so-called 4-star hotel, the servants in the rooms aren't in very good condition. Looks like they've been there for years. Breaking a glass is charged too. The rooms are very dark and they smell of moisture, shower not worthy of a 4 star, you have to take your own shampoo and soap because those of the hotel they are of very poor quality, the toilet had to put dirty papers next to you.
Breakfast in a restaurant next door, always the same not at all a continental breakfast.

BAD EXPERIENCE

My experience at Posada Mariposa was extremely disappointing. The facility was in poor hygienic condition, with dirt everywhere. Although the linen was changed daily, it was always stained, which is unacceptable. The room was tiny, with a sink so small that it was impossible to wash comfortably. In addition, we found animals in the room, which made the stay even more unpleasant. When we asked to change rooms, the staff were extremely grumpy and unwilling to help us. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Looks & Sounds Better Than it Was

Wonderful location. The music outside was very loud but the room was completely soundproof from outside noise. Breakfast was at a restaurant next door and was very good yet basic. The staff was very friendly. We stayed in the Suite Emperador, which looked much better in the photos. The water was lukewarm. You had to run the faucet about 20 minutes before showering, and then it would be very warm at the most, and the water pressure was very bad. I complained to the staff since showering was not pleasant. The sink counter was very bad. The paint was peeling. There was a closet with hangers but it was in the corner of the room and very dark and difficult to see. The door only opened at a 90-degree angle, making it darker. Actually, there were a lot of lamps but just for the atmosphere - not for seeing. One big problem is that there was NO dresser. Clothes had to be piled up on the table or kept in a suitcase. I felt like I was camping. The TV was in the corner and could not be watched from the bed or any other area of the room. See photos. Coffee machine, but no coffee. No bath amenities you usually get, but that didn't matter to us. I would have really liked a tissue box - we asked, but they didn't have any. Guests are NOT permitted. I had friends staying at another location, but I could not show them how bad the room was. I didn't know that when booking the room.

Excellent value for money. The staff was friendly and helpful. Some precautions to review

Positive factors:
The friendly and professional reception of the staff;
The location in the center on 5 Avenida
The possibility to fill the water bottles with the dispenser placed in the lobby
The spacious room, and bathroom with bidet
Negative factors:
Shower towels are not replaced when the room is set up but are collected and subsequently returned once cleaned. This caused us some discomfort on returning from the beach at noon not being able to dry out.
